  1. emphasis on first author

Since most of the work is done by the first author(s) there should be a higher weigth be set in the counting for the respective institute, eg. first author's institute receives 50% credit, the rest is distributed like in the FC. In this way also the problem with the last author would be accounted for, since in most cases the first and last author have the same affiliation

  2. do not include all of the articles in Applied Physics Letters when calculating Nature Index

Physical Review B (PRB) and Applied Physics Letters (APL) are large physics journals and have almost the same reputation. For PRB, only the articles classified as 'Rapid Communication' or 'Editors' Suggestions' are included by Nature Index. Why does Nature Index includes all of the articles in APL? Actually, A small number of articles in APL, which are featured as 'Editor's Picks' in the website of APL, have higher importance, more urgency or more interest for the community. It seems to be more reasonable for Nature Index to only include those articles in APL.

  5. Ensure that all disciplines are covered in the journal selection.

Your list of 68 journals is inadequate because it does not include any journals for some disciplines. For example, my discipline is not represented in the journal choices. Does the panel believe that no high quality research could possibly come from my discipline? Should institutions be penalized for allowing my discipline to be studied? (My discipline is green chemistry and the relevant journals are: Green Chemistry, ChemSusChem, ACS Sustainable Chemistry, Environmental Science and Technology, Energy & Environmental Science, etc.

    Hello Philip.

Thank you for your interest in the Nature Index. We welcome journal recommendations and will be reviewing the list of journals included in the Index this year. I started a new thread here for journal suggestions: http://feedback.natureindex.com/forums/265094-general/suggestions/7222724-journal-suggestions

Please list the journals you would like us to consider for inclusion in order of preference and I will submit them to the panel.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

    Regards,
    Bob

  6. Improve your definition of, or enlarge your coverage of, environmental sciences

Currently the Nature Index has a category described as "earth and environmental sciences", but this is not really accurate: there are no environmental science journals included in this list.

I suggest you either add some journals (E.g. Environ. Sci. Technol. could be considered as, in my opinion, the most widely respected broad scope journal in its field), or change the category description to "earth sciences and ecology" to better reflect the coverage.

  8. Dis-aggregate the IISERs in your Institution outputs ranking for India

    Messrs

Inidan Institute of Science Education and Research is not one institution but (at the moment ) 7 : soon to rise to 9. To quote Wikipedia

"Seven IISERs have been established across the country, namely IISER Kolkata in West Bengal, IISER Pune in Maharashtra, IISER Mohali in Punjab, IISER Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, IISER Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, IISER Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh and IISER Berhampur in Odisha.[4] [5] Two new IISERs, at Berhampur, Odisha and Nagaland were announced in the 2015 Budget.[6][7] "

ranking ``IISER'' at AC=143 above IISc(Bangalore) AC=131 or IIT Mumbai(AC=78) is absurd because you have clubbed…

  12. Add information on Size of the institution

    Dear,
Thanks a lot for publishing the Nature Index 2017. Since the list contains various sizes of institutes, it would in some cases be interesting to be able to correct on size etc. Is there any way that the Nature Index would also include a column about the size of the research pool in each of the institutions in the list ? This would improve the way we can analyse the data

The order of output of institutions can differ significantly depending on the measure used to order them (AC, FC or WFC). There are many factors determining an institution’s…

  14. Update top articles by Altmetric score dynamically

Currently, top articles by Altmetric score does not seem to update dynamically (or reflect the actual articles that have top attention scores for an institution for the time period listed on the institution page). This would be a nice feature. I'm not sure what date range is currently being applied to the "Top articles by Altmetric score" for each institution, but it would make sense for it to use the same date range as the data in the table above.

  15. Allow users to see the articles making up top collaborations

On the collaboration page for each institution, it would be nice to be able to click on each "top collaborator" and see the list of articles the institutions collaborated on. This helps to answer questions when management sees an expected collaborator listed in one of the top 10 lists.

  16. Remove Russian Academy of Sciences from the list of Institutes

Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Russian Academy of Medical Sciences are not a scientific institute or an university. Some years ago many scientific institutes in Russia were belonged to one of these Academies. But at given moment all scientific institutes has no any connection with them...

  18. Showing AC/FC (diversity factor)

I believe an interesting metric would be the ratio FC/AC, as it shows the propension to take part in collaborations.

    Let's take an example with 3 countries (resp. institutions) A, B and C. Each has two authors noted A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.

A1 and B1 publish together (AC +1, FC +0.5 each),
A2 and B2 publish together (AC +1, FC +0.5 each),
    C1 and C2 publish together (AC +1, FC +1)

    Country FC AC AC/FC
    /Institution
    ----------------------------------
    A 1 2 2
    B 1 2 2
    C 1 1 1

For an equal amount of work (1 paper), the…

  20. Annual tables to display all countries

Would it be possible to have Annual Tables (e.g. https://www.natureindex.com/annual-tables/2018/country/all) display data for all countries on one page, instead of just the top 50? That is, exactly how it is on the Current Index page. Thanks.
